ScienceDirect
Brought to Philippine institutions by CE-Logic

ScienceDirect gives your researchers the full text they can cite

Where a citation becomes a page they can read

ScienceDirect is Elsevier's platform for peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. Where an abstract database tells a researcher that a paper exists, ScienceDirect is where they read it.

Global tools. Local licensing and support.

ScienceDirect
  • One subscriptionPlaced and renewed with a Philippine company
  • Access set upLogins and links arranged with your library
  • Program scopingCoverage matched to the programs and offices you run
  • Local supportQuestions reach a team in the Philippines

CE-Logic licenses the tool locally and sets it up with your library, so your users reach the content it holds, your librarians put it in front of the right people, and the institution gets sources it can stand behind.

What goes into one subscription

What ScienceDirect is

  • Full-text articles
  • Book chapters
  • Remote access

The collection runs across the sciences, health, technology and the social sciences. Books from imprints including Academic Press, W.B. Saunders and Woodhead Publishing sit on the same site as the journals, so a topic search does not stop at the article level, and a chapter can be found by the same search that finds the paper beside it.

For a library, that means one destination covers both the journal literature and the reference and monograph shelf that a faculty member would otherwise chase across several platforms. For the researcher, it means a literature review built in one place stays consistent, with the full text one click from the list of references.

Who it is for

Health sciences and medical libraries, engineering and science faculties, graduate researchers, and the research staff of a hospital, a laboratory or a government agency that publishes or reviews studies.

It is also the platform a librarian points to when a faculty member asks where a citation can actually be read. Every document a user opens is a request your staff do not have to process by hand, and remote access means the request does not depend on someone being on campus.

What is inside

  • Full-text articles
  • Book chapters
  • Remote access
  • Peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters across disciplines
  • Books from scientific, technical and health imprints
  • ScienceDirect Topics, where a key term in an article links to a short definition and related reading
  • Alerts on a journal or a subject, so new work arrives instead of being searched for
  • Related content suggestions based on reading history, with Scopus citation data on the article page
  • Remote access by registration, so a user is not limited to a campus network

Getting access in the Philippines

CE-Logic brings ScienceDirect to Philippine institutions and handles the subscription conversation and the access setup with your library.

Scopus pairs with it for citation context and author profiles, and Emerald Publishing covers the management and applied social science side of your collection. Both sit alongside ScienceDirect in CE-Logic Research and Information Solutions, the group's library and research portfolio.

C&E ALS Navigate

How CE-Logic Implements ScienceDirect: The Navigate Framework

A license is not adoption. CE-Logic uses the Navigate framework to make sure the resource gets adopted, reaches the right people, and stays tied to institutional goals.

01

Discover

We look at what your programs, research offices and students need to reach, and how your library handles access today, before a subscription is placed.

02

Align

We match the coverage to the programs, research areas or agency mandates it has to serve, so the subscription has a reason to exist.

03

Activate

We set up authentication and library links before launch, and start with the librarians and faculty who will use it first.

04

Sustain

Ongoing support from CE-Logic after launch, with usage reviewed against the programs the subscription was bought for, so renewal is a decision on evidence.

Navigate is the C&E ALS framework for turning a licensed resource into research your institution actually uses. Read about C&E ALS Navigate.

Questions libraries ask before licensing ScienceDirect

Can we evaluate ScienceDirect before we subscribe?

Yes. Contact CE-Logic to arrange a free trial or a demo for your library. We scope it on the faculties and programs you serve, the journals they ask for now and how your users would reach the platform, then set access up with your library.

How do we request a quote for ScienceDirect access?

Send us the subject areas your faculties teach and research in, plus the journal titles your library holds now, and CE-Logic scopes the collection with your library through the Navigate framework. The quote follows that scope, and your librarian takes it through approval. Start with the contact form.

Can students read ScienceDirect articles off campus?

Yes, through remote access. A student signs in on ScienceDirect, finds the institution in the organization list and authenticates through your library's route, which keeps working away from campus. Where the institution authenticates by IP only, your library can arrange registration for users rarely on site.

Do we get every article, or only the collection we license?

You get the full text of what your license covers. Everything else stays visible as a title and, where the publisher provides one, an abstract, with the full text available to buy. Your library can tell you which titles fall inside your entitlement.

Can we subscribe to selected subject collections only?

Yes, more than 24 subject collections exist. Elsevier adds them to an existing ScienceDirect agreement rather than selling them standalone, so the set you take is worked out with us through Navigate, against what your library already holds.

How current are the articles available in ScienceDirect?

Articles appear as soon as they are accepted, ahead of the issue they will land in. Elsevier publishes them as Articles in Press, peer reviewed but not yet the final version of record, citable by DOI and the year they went online.
